Friends of Germantown Streamside Reserve

The Friends of Germantown Streamside Reserve is a subgroup of the Upper Ovens Valley Landcare Group dedicated to the restoration and management of the natural environment of this historic part of the Ovens River for the benefit of both the environment and the community.

The group was formed in 2012 with the initial commitment to restore a track that runs from the Germantown Bridge end of the reserve through to the old ford track. It was initially hoped that the track could be extended through to the Snowy Creek Picnic Ground and this has now been completed. In addition to the track restoration works significant weed reduction and removal works have been undertaken with the support and assistance of the Upper Ovens Valley Landcare Group and the Landmates team from the Beechworth Correctional Facility.

In addition to the initial track and weed works, the FoGSR group have installed bench seats and tables as well as safety barriers at appropriate look-outs along the river. Directinal signage has also been installed to ensure everyone knows the way.

The Group is very grateful to the generosity of the Alpine Shire Council, Parks Victoria, North East CMA and DEPI for the funsing that has allowed them to complete the works undertaken to date and to plan for further works in the reserve.
